SEND MY LOVE TO HEAVEN
by jonaly ibanez

Once, there was a young boy named Alexis and a young girl named Alyssa and they were best friend. .They has known each other since they were a child. They knew all each other secrets.
As years went by, Alexis noticed that his feelings towards her best friend were slowly changing. At first, he thought it was a simple crush case. But when he started thinking about Alyssa, he dream of her and having the feeling of wanting to be with her all the time. And then he realized that he was slowly falling in love with her best friend.
Many times he tried to deny the feeling for he was scared to imagine what would happen if ever he’d try to tell her how he fell about her. He was scared because she might think that he was taking advantage of her and their friendship. He was afraid of losing her so he just kept his feeling hidden.

Then one day, he just learned from a friend that Alyssa already had a boyfriend, at first, he tried to convince himself that it was just a rumour. Her boyfriend was Allen, a popular senior, who was the heartthrob of the campus. Every time he saw them walking together, his heart slowly breaking into pieces.
Then one faithful day, they broke up. Alyssa came to him crying on his shoulder. Mixed feeling were scaring him inside, he was happy because she was free and maybe he would have the chance of telling her his true feelings but then he was feeling so bad because she was crying.
Then it was their JS Prom, he led Alyssa to the dance floor. At that moment, there were so many times he wanted to tell that he love her but suddenly the music stopped and the magic was gone.
They walked towards the table. And he went to get some drink but when he returned, she was gone. A s he was searching, he saw Alyssa and her ex boyfriend at the dark were so closed to each other.
Since that night, he avoided Alyssa. Many times Alyssa tried talking with him but he never gave a chance to do so because he was afraid to hear her say that she loves Allen and not him.
The day of their graduation came, Alexis was planning to talk up medicine at state and to move out the next day. As the program ended, Alyssa approached him. There was something in her eyes that he couldn’t describe. He wanted to hug her at that moment, tell her that he love her but then she turned and walked away.
So he moved on the next day, he concentrated with his studies and each of his achievement he had was done for Alyssa. He thought that if he would be successful one day, he could be able to tell her that he loves her.
It was a year after his graduation when he decided to return home and see her again. As he got off the plane, he went home directly, desperate to get to her house desperate to see her again and that he had loved her for a long time.
When he reached their house; he saw her old sister but he was confused with the way she was acting but still he followed her. Then he realized that she was leading him to the direction of a lake and he saw a newly dug tomb with the name of the girl he ever loved.
He had known that “It has been a week since Alyssa died of Leukaemia, and the old sister of Alyssa gave him a letter coming from Alyssa. While he was reading the letter he discovered that Alyssa was also in love with him since then, Alyssa did many things to love Alexis but She also hide her feeling because of their friendship and she never saw a hint that Alexis had the same feeling as she do so. Alyssa wanted to love her as a woman and not as a best friend.
Alexis felt his tears falling as he folded the letter. He wanted to shout out to let her know that he love her, if not as much, but more than she did for him. He love her more than anything in this world. He knelt touching the soil of her grave and rain started to fall. He continued crying softly and whispered, “God, send my love to heaven.”

Essay
First love
by jonalyn ibanez

Love for me means cannot be seen
or measured, yet it is a powerful enough
to change in a moment, and offer you
more joy.
When you first hear first love,
what comes in your mind? Of course you
remember your first crush and your
first love.
First love is something so special to
all of us, both emotionally and physically,
that it touches our lives and enriches them
forever.
First love is a little foolish and a lot
of curiosity. The magic of first love is
our ignorance that it can never end.
We never forget those who make us blush.
Then, comes kissing. What's in a kiss? Have
you ever wondered what it is? Well, a kiss
is just a pleasant reminder that two heads
are better than one, they lips came together.

I Need My Parent

I need you not only
to send me to school and learn,
to read and write
and maybe even to earn.
I need you
for your advice,
to guide me what is good
from is bad.
I need you
to teach me how to love
and be loved.
I need you
to hear me out
to listen to my problems
and to calm me up.
I need you
to show me how to love
and respect others.
I need a parent
who will always by my side
and love me with all their heart.

CAR critique

Lesson 2-Isneg

Isneg was derived from a combination of “IS” meaning “recede” and “Uneg” meaning ‘interior’. They lived in the north-western tip of the Cordillera Mountains known us Kalinga-Apayao. They were kind, hospitable, generous, and with self reliance. They have the cultural similarities with us regarding with their characteristics, and main food. But also differ when it comes to ritual practices and their tradition. The Isneg women traditionally give birth in a kneeling position, Imagine how difficult it is if we adopt that kind of living.

Regarding the formation of courtship it is take place in the girls house with the consent of the parents. And if the suitor has become acceptable, he is required to work for the family of the girl. If I would relate this kind of courtship to our living, it was also practiced before with our ancestor but in our modern technology now courtship between the boy and girl take place anywhere and even with out the consent of our parents. Their different practices were good but others were not.

Lesson 3- The Tingguian

The first inhabitant of Abra were the ancestors of the Bontoc and Ifugao, they eventually left to settle in the old mountain province.Other early inhabitants were the Tingguian or Itneg.

The Spanish garrison was established in Bangued to protect Christianized Ilocano from Tingguian raids. Most Tingguians are farmers who tend rice in kaingins and rice terraces. They also weave baskets and blankets. And it was practiced until now. The predominant languages are Ilocano and Tingguian. Abra’s economy is agriculture based, its major crops are rice, corn and root crops;and such commercial produce as coffee, tobacco, and coconut.

Abra;s inhabitants are mostly of the descendants of Ilocano settler and members of the Tingguian tribe. However, due to frequent intermarriages between the two cultures, many Ilocanos today are actually Christianized Tingguians., although many embraced Catholicism. Some Abrans still believe in ancient and supernatural spirits to this day.

Lesson 4-Hudhud

The name Ifugao may also have been derived from the word ”ipugo” which means from the hill. The Ifugaos are subdivided into major subgroups namely, Banaue, Mayaoyao, Kilangan, Hunggduan, Laguaue, Potia and Lamut.

Agriculture is also their main source of livelihood. They harvest rice and a variety of crops and vegetables. They also engage in poultry raising, pottery, weaving and hunting. The Ifugao believe that the universe is divided into five worlds or region, sky world, earth world, the underworld, the downstream region, and the upstream region. All these regions are inhabited by the thousands of deities and spirits, yet there is no supreme duty. The important rituals include the rice planting and rice harvesting rites, agba rites for sickness, hunting rites, prestige rites, marriage rites, death and burial rites.

The American troops spent much effort not only in battles but also in learning the natives culture. The Americans made friends with the natives and appointed them as a leaders in the community and gradual changes in Ifugao’s way of life had been observed, including their manner of dressing, military training, education and the elimination of head hunting practices.

Lesson 5- Oggood

Bontocs refers to the people of the mountain province consist of bthe subprovinces as Ifugao, Bontoc, Apayao, and Kalinga were created out of the original mountain province, namely Benguet, Ifugao,Mountain Province and Kalinga Apayao.

Americans built schools and give scholarships which we also adopt until now. They believe in the anitos or spirits dwelling in nature, but they are essentially monotheistic. And the formation of their courtship take place also in the female dormitory, where the man visits the woman, although the woman may invite the man to the man to spend the night at the female dormitory, there is no intimate relationship unless they are betrothed.

Their main agricultural product is also rice. Pottery and weaving are small scale industries, they also engage in fishing. They have three social classes the traditional rich, the middle class, and the poor. Their important stages life cycles are marked by the feast involving the butchering of pigs, chicken, and water buffaloes.

Lesson 6-Sudsud

Kankanays are the third largest cultural community in the mountain province. They have brown skin, large eyes and prominent cheekbones. They differ from other ethnic group because they specialize incurring illnesses, they can able to talk to spirits, and they can diagnose and treat any kind of illness.

They resisted the Spanish colonization. They practice three types of agriculture: slash-and-burn, terracing for wet rice production, and horticulture. Aside from planting crops fish is their primary source of food, some of them are engage in seasonal or part time jobs, like carpentry and pottery.

Their society so not have formal political leadership, except that which is acknowledge by the virtue of their social class, knowledge of oral tradition, possession of healing powers, knowledge of agricultural rituals and venerable wisdom which comes with age.

Family is their basic social unit. They practice monogamous relationship. Members of the family are expected to do their responsibilities related to economic and ritual activities. Their supernatural world recognizes male and female god features as well as spirits beings.

Lesson 7-Ullalim

Kalinga comes from the common noun “kalinga”, which means “enemy”, “fighter” or “headhunter” in the Ibanag and Gaddang languages. They have eight municipalities the Balbalon, Lubuagan, Pasil, Pinukpok, Rizal, Tabuk, Tanudan, and Tingguian. The Spanish authorities created military jurisdictions extending to the mountains of northern Luzon. But when the Americans came, they were able to pacify the mountain people allowing them to practice their tribal life and government. Americans focused on education, health and sanitation and also provide with vocational trainings And the American changed the Kalingas belief there illness were caused by bad spirit and they also practiced the arranged marriage as soon as they born.

In Nalbuan, in La Union lived Don Juan Panganiban the father of Lam-ang and his wife Namongan the mother of Lam-ang. Don Juan went to the mountainsw while his wife Namongan gave birth with both the power of speech and an unusual physical form.
Lam-ang was nine months old but his father has not yet returned and he left his mother to look for his father but he discovered that his father was killed by the Igorots.
Upon returning home, he heard about the beautiful maide name Ines Cannoyan and he desired to court the maiden by impressing everyone with his magic. Duly impressed the parents of Ines Cannoyan agreed to married her daughter .
After sometime, Lam-ang has their tradition that he had to catch rarang because not to comlpy with it, he would be bitten with the giant fish called Berkakan but he was not able to comply with it that's why he was swallowed by the giant fish.
Ines became very sad and lonely but the rooster told her that if the bones of Lam-ang could be recovered he might be revived.
With the help of the diver the bones Of Lam-ang recovered and life began. They live happily ever after.
While I was reading the story of Biag ni Lam-ang, I was wondering if it would be possible to happen in real life. If would be given a chance in the position of Lam-ang who has the power and strength I will help others.
